Day 3 : Saturday 2nd May 2026
Sanda Island to Twin Beach, Gigha
Duration 4.5 hours : Wildlife seen - Minke Whale! Grey seals and lots of seabirds (guillimots, razorbills, gannets and shags)
A sunnier day than expected, as we headed away from Sanda Island with a fixed bow thruster (a good few thwacks of a hammer seemed to do the trick!) and happy hearts...

Rounding the Mull of Kintyre running with the tide was blissfully calm and quick, and the settled seas seemed like a pool of gently undulating grey blue mercury which was quite mesmerising in the soft haared edges of the horizon.

Just South of Gigha we were met by an unusually inquistive Minke Whale, who circled the boat for a good 15 minutes as we idled the engine, which was really quite magical....

....and then on and up the West Coast of Gigha, before safely anchoring in the "Bay of the Isthmus" on the North Side of Twin Beach ....

Dinghy ashore, to take the fairly recently made 'North End Loop walk' with its' giant granite stepping stones, small sandy bays and ancient wooded paths peppered with lovely wild flowers.. and freshly blossoming sea pinks...

Half way round you come upon the ancient burial site on White Cairn or "Carn Ban" with its bright white quartz stones and disturbed burial tombs...

Ending at the 'Dark Sky Theatre' area for the stargazer folk amongst us ...

Then back to the boat for another nice sunset and good night's sleep.

What a start ! Exciting. May the peaceful weather continue
