Day 39: Sunday 7th June, 2026

Honningsvag to Alesund

Duration: 5hrs 45mins

After a very settled night we said goodbye to Honningsvag, and rounded the northern side of the Statt headland..

...in the open but beautifully calm waters...

...spying the odd fisherman...

.....and then back into the inner leads, taking the middle route through Haugsund and Sandsfjord, and on past Flavaer Fyr Lighthouse...

...under the bridge at Royresund...

...and then past Ulsteinvik (Sulaire's probable winter home)...

...up Steinsfjord, and round Hareidland...

...to Alesund...the Art Nouveau town that stretches across a narrow chain of islands,

...Entering the town harbour...

....we were lucky enough to find a free space on the pontoon...

So, happily tied up, we went ashore to explore...

On 23rd January 1904, there was a devastating fire in Alesund, which destroyed over 800 buildings and left 10,000 people homeless. The 50 Norwegian architects selected to design the town had all recently studied abroad and been influenced by the 'Jegendstil' - Art Nouveau- style. Within 3 years the town had been rebuilt - using influences from medieval stave churches , viking age motifs and elements of nature in one uniform Art Nouveau style...

...which meant our wander through the colourful town was a really pleasant one..

..every turn finding a new pleasing view...

..and after about an hour, we circled back to the boat...

...spotting a nice and enticing Indian, which we went to later on, and then worked off the nan bread with an after-dinner walk through Byparken town park...

and a climb up the 418 steps to Mount Aksla viewpoint...

...and then back down...

...where Troll met troll...

...and then it was time for bed.
