Day 56: Tuesday 23rd June, 2026.
Bolga to Bodo
Duration: 6hrs 30mins
The rains eased just enough for us to leave Bolga without getting too soggy...

...taking the inshore route into Gasvaerfjord and then Stottfjord, with more dramatic but cloudtopped scenery and scatterings of small skerries and islands...

...and after 6 uneventful hours we began our entry into a very busy Bodo harbour...

...where with great encouragement and help from a Dutchman we squeeeeezed ourselves into a space on of the inner pontoons, and then after careful consideration and conversation with a Norwegian captain, decided to move to another slightly bigger spot adjacent. It felt good to have arrived at our stop-off point for our short sojourn home, so after tying up securely we hopped ashore for a wee look around the second biggest city in Northern Norway and the capital of the Nordland county

A fairly souless modern city, Bodo was European Capital of Culture in 2024 and is an Arctic hub for transport having the northernmost train terminal in Norway, and a popular gateway to the Lofoten Islands. It also has a few floating saunas, and we found ourselves tempted by Hot and Salty....

...so spent a delicious 2 hours in and out of the huge yellow woodfired sauna, dipping in the Arctic waters and finishing in the heated pool with its little bar window....followed by a lovely seafood dinner out...
