Day 10 & 11 : Saturday 9th May
Caledonian Canal - Banavie top basin to Laggan Locks;
Duration - 4 hours
A predominantly cold but sunny day to gently motor from Banavie to Laggan Locks. Two swing bridges...

... and 3 upward locks, with a very low water level for the canal...

The aptly named Loch Lochy brought us more sun...

and a wee bit of summer hail!

But once through Laggan Lock, reaching the highest point on the canal (32m/ 106 ft above sea level) , the sun came out again...

for us to tie up on the pontoon, and refill the water tanks ...

and then do a spot of "forest bathing" amongst some beautiful western red cedars....

and enjoy another calm, restful night.
Day 11: Sunday 10th May 2026.
Laggan Locks to Fort Augustus top basin
Duration: 3.5 hours
A relaxed breakfast and departure, into a verrrry chilly wind, passing the same lovely trees on Laggan Avenue, which were planted to stabilise the banks on one of the trickiest sections of the canal to build...

and through Loch Oich, the second smallest of the Great Glen lochs...encountering 2 swing bridges...

...and for the first time, 2 downward locks at Cullochy..

..and Kytra, where we had to wait for the rather large 'Lord of the Glens' to squeeeeeeze by!

and stopped at Fort Augustus for the night.....

where we admired the life-like rendition of Nessie along with the other frozen tourists.
