Day 2: Friday 1st May 2026
Lochranza, Arran to Sanda Island - Duration: 4.5 hours
Wildlife seen: Shag, Wild Red Deer, lots of seabirds
Woke early to another nice day , but as the day progressed the cloud and the cool built up to more familiar Scottish Summer sailing conditions. Breakfast and 'bow thruster' investigations, followed by a trip ashore to purchase some excellent sandwiches from the ferry pier...

..and a walk to the Arran Distillery to stock up on 'essentials'...

No wind, so a gentle motor to our familiar anchorage at Sanda Island....

and an easy walk to Prince Edward's Rock, to admire the ever impressive lighthouse built by Alan Stevenson in 1850 - known as 'The Ship', because it really does look like a big Battleship from the sea.

The island itself was sold to MOWI salmon fishery last year, who plan to combine a new salmon farm with tourism but no works have been started and the old buildings are now visibly in a state of disrepair.

Back aboard the boat, we enjoyed a very peaceful night rocking gently to the sound of the odd sea bird (none of which were me!).
