Day 12 : Monday 11th May 2026.
Fort Augustus to Loch Dochgarroch
Duration: 4 hrs 45 min
After a good sleep, we were up and ready to take the first opportunity to go down the 5 locks...

and leave touristy Fort Augustus behind...

Then it was a long motor through Loch Ness, all 37 kms of her, which, because of its great depth contains more water than all the lakes in England and Wales combined..

...passing the dramatic 13th Century Medieval ruin of Urquhart Castle....

before entering the smallest of the four lochs on the canal - Loch Dochfour...

..and finally tie up on the spacious pontoons at Dochgarroch - the epicentre of one of the strongest earthquake tremors to be felt on the Great Glen Fault which occured in 1901 - where "it was felt as far away as Caithness in the North and Fife in the South" ...

With no monsters encountered and no tremors to be felt, we made the most of the sunshine and had a wee walk to stretch the legs along a bit of the River Ness and the canal...

before returning back to the boat and having another quiet night in.
