Day 40: Monday 8th June, 2026

Alesund to Bud

Duration: 5hrs 50mins

Awoke to another nice morning... a perfect day for a wee walk ...so back up the 418 steps to Aksla and then along a wooded path...

...and on and up to Rundskue viewpoint... with views out to where we would be heading later...

...As we reached Fjelstua, and began our slow descent, we passed the remains of a WW2 German spotter bunker and light artillery garrison. During the war Alesund was known as "Little London" by the Gestapo, because of the resistance work that took place here. The transport route of the 'Shetland Bus' used Alesund as one of their major bases for transporting Norwegian resistance and goods between Shetland and Norway. 3,300 Norwegians managed to use the various 'Shetland Bus' routes so that they could fight alongside the allies. However, it wasn't without risk as 320 people lost their lives making the crossing.

...just round the corner we were back at the Askla viewpoint...

...so back down the steps...

...back down to the boat - It was time to depart and go Northward again...along the Hroyfjord, where the coastline became more mountainous...

..but a calm enough sea states for the Captain to do a few chores...

...We passed the pretty Flatflesa Lighthouse which is now a hotel...

...and then arrived at our stop for the night...the pretty coastal village of Bud, which sits at the edge of the Ronsdal coast in Hustadvika, an exposed section of the Norwegian coast.

Having been one of the largest trading posts between Bergen and Trondheim in the 16th Century, it is now just a really charming fishing village...so keen to take a look round we tied up the boat safely...

and went ashore...enjoying all the lovely architecture and birdlife..

...before heading back to Sulaire for dinner and bed...
