Day 66: Wednesday 15th July, 2026

Henningsvaer to Reine

Duration: 6hrs 35mins

The worst of the gusts had abated, so it was time to say goodbye to lovely Henningsvaer. Waterproofs on, lines untied, and fenders in.... and off we motored...

...into the fairly swelly, rolly waves of the Vestfjord for three or four hours...then on past the entrance to Nusjford...

and a little further on, as the seas calmed a little, we approched Hannoy and its connecting bridge to Reine...

The entrance into Reinefjorden is breathtaking - towering mountains dropping spectacularly toward the clear water below and the small picturesque harbour...where we were happy to see there was plenty of space for us to tie up on the visitors' pontoon...and take in the jaw-dropping views..

The picturesque village of Reine has a population of around 300 permanent residents whose primary industry is still fishing - the fishing boats line the village harbour...

and the wooden cod-drying racks are placed all around the bay.

It is also now a popular tourist destination - being one of the most photographed places in the Lofoten - its lovely wee red 'rorbu' fishermen cabins now serving as boutique accommodation .

Its hikes and climibing routes are a mecca to the fit outward-bound clientelle, and when we looked really closely at the top of Reinebringen we could see those hardy souls that had climed the 1978 stone sherpa steps looking down at the bay from its rocky summit..

After a nice 6km walk around the fjord and back...

we stopped in, and dined at, the Tapperiet Bistro before heading back to the well-secured boat to watch England play Argentina and feel the winds strengthening as the prismatic sky foretold the stormy weather to come...
