The last Northward leg...

Engeloya to Tengelfjorden (via Trollfjord)

Duration: 5hrs 10 mins

A leisurely get up in the morning sun, and then anchor raised for our last northward leg... bidding Engeloya adieu...and heading into the marked channel through the skerries...

...away from the mainland, toward the spiky silhouette of the Lofotoen island wall - whose scale can only be fully appreciated when the white sail of a passing yacht is visible...

...entering the more open and bumpy waters of Vestfjord, giving the captain a chance to get the sails up and switch off the engine ...

until we reached Oyhellesund ...

and then on into Raftsund...with a little detour to go trollhunting down the infamous Trollfjord ...according to legends, the dramatic, steep-sided canyon was carved out when the troll named Hinnoygubben lost his balance in a fight and sliced the rock with his axe

...but the only troll I saw was driving the boat...

...so with him still aboard, we retraced our 2 km route in with a close encounter with a swooping sea eagle ...and then continued to motor up Raftsund...the body of water that divides Hinnoy, the largest of the Vestagoys flatter island chain...

...and the more mountainous side of Austvagoy - Lofoten's largest island...

...until we found a lovely sandy bay at Tengelfjorden to anchor in...which quite fortuitously sits on the border between the southern tip of the Vesteralen district and the eastern edge of the Lofoten archipelago...so a perfect place to stop...

...and have a wee walk ashore...

...and then enjoy another peaceful night aboard...
